February 2012 (part 3)
Wednesday 8th (cont)
The scaffolding grows rapidly at the south end of the causeway.
The north end is still being levelled and marked for pits
Rogue bits of steel need to be removed
Joining shorter girders to make a long beam
Thu 9th Feb
Moving a long beam into place. These beams will bear smaller beams that will support the floor of the mould.
Concreting the northern half of the lower causeway.
A refill for the concrete pump...
<< north end excavation. ^ rebar assembly for concrete. ^
Harbour Office road steelwork
Causeway concreting...
...and smoothing
Using south end steelwork as a bench to connect up another long beam
There were often interested spectators around. (The dogs couldn't see much, though.)
The workmen use the unfinished south end support as a work bench.
More concreting and smoothing...
Like a character in an old-time Guiness advert...
...this worker heaves steel girders about!
Concrete passes the NE pillar...
It's all happening - long beams, concreting, north end excavating...
..and the concrete keeps coming, although it's ignored by the egret looking for its lunch.
